Book Review: The Beginner’s Bible

If you have kids, it is very likely you have a children’s Bible or two lying around your house. If you have kids like mine, it is also very likely that those Bibles are incredibly used looking (in my case, the cover is missing and the pages are dogeared). That doesn’t seem to matter to my girls. They love looking at the pictures and get excited when they recognize what story it is because they have heard it before at VBS or during children’s church.

When given the opportunity to review this Bible, I was a little surprised because it isn’t necessarily a new book. I own the New Testament version of The Beginner’s Bible and my girls love it. However, this is the full version that includes both the Old and New Testaments. I also have a copy that had pages that are made of regular paper, this version is a lot nicer with thicker pages.

As Christmas draws near, it is always a good time to refocus and reassess where your priorities are. It is so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the season, that we often forget the reason. Today when I handed the Bible to my girls, I realized how easy it is to forget. They were so excited looking at the pictures and asked me all sorts of questions about the stories. That is the real reason. The trees, gifts, and traditions are fun, but the essence on what the season is about is in the pages of the most important book we can read, The Bible. Giving our kids a foundation in that book is one of the most valuable things we can do for them spiritually.
